ESF was contracted by SMS Limited to carry out an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Study (ESIA) for Coffee Sector Carbon Finance Project: A World Bank, GTZ, 4C (Common Code of Coffee Community), Komothai Coffee Growers Cooperative Society (KCGCS) and Coffee Research Foundation (CRF) supported project.
Similar to the Kenya Agricultural Carbon Finance Project, the project targeted small scale coffee farmers and aimed at improving their yields and productivity while at the same time generating carbon assets through payment for environmental services rendered by adoption of Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) practices in Central Kenya. The project aimed at improving coffee its production on a spatial are of about 17,000- ha of land. It also extended to include an Integrated Pest Management study.
