ESF undertook an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Study for the Kenya Agricultural Carbon Finance Project that was supported by World Bank and implemented by the Swedish Cooperative Center-Vi Agroforestry (SCC-ViA). The project targeted small scale farmers and aimed at improving their yields and farm productivity while at the same time generating carbon assets through payment for environmental services.
The study involved an environmental and social impact assessment for the proposed Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) practices, a quantitative household survey, an indigenous people screening process and an indigenous pest management study. The outcome of these studies was comprehensive documentations of an Integrated Pest Management Framework (IPMF), Indigenous People Planning Framework (IPPF) and an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) that advised the implementation of the project.
