Kenya Government with funding from World Bank retained ESF Consultants to design a 10 year Health Care Waste Management for Kenya. The assignment included conducting a countrywide survey/assessment so as to establish situational analysis on status of health waste management in Kenya, develop a National Guidelines on Health Care Waste Management, establish a comprehensive system of health care waste management, identify risk perception and address training needs for health workers/operators and community social sensitization /mobilization, assist in the selection of better management options for health care waste management. The Waste management assessment was focused on quantity, type distribution and general perception of broad spectrum and hazardous waste management. Effectiveness of measures that were in place as well as equipment to manage the waste, cost and policy levels will be examined. The relevant players in this field were examined in depth as well.
